Master craftsmen are in a league of their own. Their works are a class apart, and those who can afford them won’t have it any other way.
Apart from the skills honed over the years and a deep passion for their craft, they have access to two asymmetric leverages that ordinary craftsmen do not even bother about.
The benefits of these two leverages are subtle for the eyes of ordinary craftsmen but potent enough for master craftsmen to do everything in their abilities to have them.
From ancient to modern times, master craftsmen in all fields cultivated these two leverages but seldom publicized them. It’s only when you study their lives and connect the dots, the common thread reveals itself.
Here are those two leverages:
Specialized Tools: Humans can do epic shit because they have built a variety of tools. If you doubt it, throw the screwdriver out of the window and try using your nails on that rusted screw. It’s not just James Bond; all master craftsmen have specialized custom tools in their private collections. These tools need not be shiny million dollars gadgets, they can be humble handmade ones, but they should be purpose-built for specific needs.
Access to a common thought pool: Even though masters seemed to live secluded lives, they all had at their disposal a group of great minds to discuss the matters of their craft and seek advice. These secret societies have been careful in whom they let in, as every new mind affects the quality of the common thought pool.
As a growth craftsman, you should look for opportunities to build these two leverages.
